Marketing Associate

 

Founded in 2001, Avalon Advisors, LLC (“Avalon”) is a Houston-based independent registered investment adviser offering investment management and financial advice for individuals, families and institutions.  We currently manage approximately $7 billion, are a registered investment adviser under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 and are locally controlled and owned by employees and outside investors.

 

 

Role Summary/Purpose

The primary function of this role is supporting the internal and external marketing efforts of the firm. The right candidate will be dynamic and enthusiastic about taking on a broad range of projects. Attention to detail, creative, articulate, proactive, positive, highly motivated, self-starting and project-oriented skills are required. This is a collaborative role which will require interaction and partnerships across multiple levels of the firm and external entities. This position reports to the Head of Investment Operations and Culture and will involve some Operational functions.

 

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Work closely with our marketing team, Portfolio Managers and Client Advisory teams to support and promote our brand
  • Write, design, update, and produce internal and external marketing materials, such as presentations, newsletters and ads
  • Continually evaluate existing marketing materials and activities and independently recommend strategic and tactical changes
  • Update quarterly marketing materials within set timeframes
  • Coordinate with the Compliance Team to ensure compliance of external marketing materials
  • Implement best practices for the generation of annual Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS®) compliant presentations
  • Work across business entities and departments to create a consistent look and messaging
  • Maintain and update the firm’s website
  • Create ads and work with Client Advisory Teams to identify marketing opportunities
  • Coordinate and prepare board book materials
  • Edit and format market commentaries and white papers
  • Update third party databases
  • Organize all aspects of client events including invites, RSVPs and day of activities
  • Work with Client Advisory Teams on RFPs
  • Provide ad-hoc support to Client Advisory Teams as needed

 

 

Key Operational Responsibilities

  • Participate in the quarterly GIPS Committee
  • Participate in the GIPS verification process
  • Assist with training of all parties that use GIPS data
  • Work on Limited Partnership documentation
  • Initiate and approve wire requests
  • Back up Operations team as needed

 

 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Must have 3-5 years of marketing experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Marketing, Communications or English a plus
  • Must have fundamental experience in Adobe Suite
  • Must be able to undergo a background check and fingerprinting
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent technology skills
  • Exposure to Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS®) highly desirable
  • FactSet experience a plus
  • Salesforce experience a plus
  • Creative with a keen awareness for details
  • Proactive, positive attitude, able to identify issues and offer solutions
  • Project oriented with a strong work ethic and ability to complete tasks
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Physical requirements/working conditions

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone.
